I’m 21 years old and just purchased a condo with my boyfriend. With the warmer weather approaching I would really like to get a few tomato plants outside on our porch. A previous question I asked led me to decide against a hanging tomato basket, but I’m still going to do one just to expariment. I’ll probably do two plants in pots on the porch (very sunny) and one hanging (also very sunny in the spot where the hanging hooks are)
An answer to my previous question said that I should use Miracle Grow (I forgot what kind specifically) on the plants. But would that be “Ungreen” ? Do plant foods like Miracle Grow harm the earth? And even more important, one of the reasons I want to plant my own is so that I know exactly what goes on them (organic)…
Are there any more natural ways that I can fertalize my plant (asside from any type of animal ****. I just wont use it)…
Also, if I purchase a tomato plant pre-grown (like when its an itty bitty baby) rather than growing it from seeds, should I assume that its already been touched by pesticides? I’m planning on buying before it grows tomatos.
I finally have a yard after moving into my first house and I am interested in growing a garden when it gets warmer. What are the best materials, tips, or plants that would be best for my project?
I heard that growing marigolds with your veggies will combat bugs, is this true? Are there any other flowers that do this too?
We have a fence. We share everything. But when we are not home, we have been cleaned out by one specific neighbor. Others claim to see him do it but don’t say anything. We have confronted him and he just brags about all the veggies he has saved up in his freezer…What exactly is wrong with this picture?
thanks ammie
all excellent ideas, good answers, thanx
zackbar I don’t want to seem like a goody two shoes, but I don’t want to go to jail…lol…
I may have to get this voted on, I am undecided on who to vote for. I appreciate all answers..thanks.
It’s almost time to start thinking about gardening… I’d like to plant veggies in my garden outdoors. I’ve heard that Calgary weather is not very good for many veggies (and fruits like tomatoes).
I need some advice on what I can plant here. I’d like carrots, squash, peas, pole beans… what works here (I have south and west facing gardens and walls to plant against.
Thanks!
Any serious ideas would be appreciated.
