Flowering Fence

In our former home, which was situated on a large thoroughfare, we had a tiny little front yard. And a big problem: passersby loved to part with their garbage there, and every dog in the neighborhood was intimately acquainted with our little garden. In the winter, salt from the sidewalk would wash into our soil and kill the plants.

In addition, the garden was lacking a “face”, it had no coherent design.

Our solution: a raised planter/fence hybrid along the whole length of the yard.

The new flowering fence fundamentally re-defined the space and changed the feel of our yard. It suddenly had turned into a little (a very little) semi-private space. The next year, we had a tiny green oasis with blooms and bees and butterflies!
